Use the hand controller to move the star East and West in the eyepiece. You should note the star's motion is not perfectly parallel. to the horizontal lines in the eyepiece. Rotate the eyepiece and check out the East-West motion again. Repeat until the horizontal crosshairs are oriented along the star's path. Once properly aligned, place the star on one of the horizontal lines so that it bisects the line. The above rotation was exaggerated to illustrate the procedure,- in actual fact the rotated line will almost be horizontal as shown here. Allow the telescope to track for a few minutes. You will see the star begin to drift off the line. Here you are only concerned with drift above and below the line. |
