However, near the end of the next and last glaciation,
the Wisconsin, another Bering Land Bridge was formed perhaps as early as 24,000
years ago.
This time we know modern horses crossed the
land bridge from North America to Asia. Other animals that crossed the land bridge
were camels, lions, saber toothed cats, wooly mamoths, bison, armadillos, and
mastodons.
The same land bridge was still open 10,500 years
ago after stone aged hunters crossed over from Asia in statistcally significant
numbers 11,000 years ago. We find their highly developed lithic projectile points, called Clovis
Points, in association with Mamoth Kill Sites throughout North America. There is
a marked concentration of these kill sites running North and South just East
of the Rockies. Some mamoth bones have been found with Clovis points still
embeded in them.
