If you think this a complicated structure, you are in for a surprise
This is a rather simple mirror cell. 54 point Mirror Cells have been designed for larger
diameter mirrors where triangles like these ones share the support of more triangles, - that in turn
support the Main Mirror. Such arrangements are often referred to as "floatation cells".
Why so much fuss over how the Main Mirror is supported? That
is what we shall explore in the next few pages. Hint: Don't expect to find a
floatation cell in a department store model telescope. Caution: Some high
quality Main Mirrors don't need the added support of a floatation cell. Beware of Salesmen
who imply a floatation cell with more supporting points is better, - sometimes the opposite is true.
