The Good, Bad, and the Ugly Telescopes We'll take a look at the ugly first.   How I remember my sister telling me my nephew was being sent a telescope all the way from Australia for Christmas.
Well it's hard to get excited over a piece of plastic with a glass window that slides into another piece of plastic with an oversized marble in the other end.  It even came with a pamphlet showing the stars in the major constellations, that oddly enough, depicted the Northern Circumpolar Constellations not visible from Australia. Somebody was thinking!
Unfortunately, that seems to be close to the common perception of what a telescope is, and what Astronomy is all about.
