Since when is a request for a Library, a request for a Telephone Exchange Office? Books are non intrusive. Telephones are very intrusive. A telephone exchange for 27 families? Who made that sales pitch? Apparently there were three attempts to burn down the exchange, and several nasty fights where criminal charges had to ensue.  My friends being criminalized because I opened my mouth.  I don't deserve my membership in the Bear Clan. I may have been strong like a bear, but I wasn't wary like a bear.

Since then:  The whole Methy Portage and the Saskatchewan portion of the Clearwater River Valley has been made into The Clearwater River Provincial Park.   Laloche has become a Northern center of learning with a Community College.   Now there is a population of 2,000 people, justifying that telephone exchange office. The fellow who murdered his girlfriend has returned to the community after serving his prison sentence, and is now a respected leader of LaLoche.

As an Anthropologist I can't help but feel these people should have had more input into the drastic changes made in their community, but as an academic, I am pleased at the direction they have moved in. Communities with strong educational facilities always fare better.
